Transport and Rail

Rail operations run on evidence scattered across structured systems, free-text logs and expert judgment. Bringing it together with knowledge graphs, LLMs and causal reasoning turns days of investigation into minutes.

Delay attribution: from 8 days to 10 minutes

Great Western Railway

8 days to 10 minutes average attribution time, with higher accuracy and a complete audit trail. Live in production

Challenge

Delay attribution was averaging eight days per incident. Investigators manually assembled evidence from 15 structured and unstructured data sources, interpreted free-text controller logs and crew reports, and attributed each delay to the correct industry classification code and responsible business unit under significant time pressure.

Approach

PathWay for Rail consolidated 15 data sources into a single investigation workspace. An Enterprise Knowledge Graph captured GWR's operational concepts, rules and terminology. LLMs interpreted unstructured text within that context, and causal reasoning generated classification recommendations within the Delay Attribution Principles and Rules framework, with full audit trails on every decision.

Outcome

Attribution time reduced from eight days to under ten minutes with higher accuracy and full auditability. The solution entered production in 2026 and is now commercially available as Geminos PathWay for Rail, the first in a growing family of purpose-built rail AI applications.
